4 x 6 1/4 in. xiv, then each essay is seperately paginated. Also at end is a prospectus for The Examiner. Half brown calf with marbled paper boards. Gilt designs stamped on spine with label. Label missing. Title pg has engraving of classical scene with two women in robes and a quote from Horace. On the verso of the half-title is the following ; "ADVERTISEMENT. IT was not till after the title-page of the present work had been engraved, that the author had any intention of quitting the NEWS; but he now writes exclusively for the paper called the EXAMINER, of which the reader may see a prospectus at the end of this volume. It was necessary to state this, that he might not commence his work with an utter falsehood". Condition of book is GOOD+ ; corners and edges quite worn, marbled boards faded and rubbed, binding is good. First two pgs are semi- detached. Title pg is slightly foxed but the text is not, is remarkably clean. Owner's bookplate on front pastedown. A rarity and a nice copy in a somewhat worn cover. Theater. RGRR.
