About this Item

143 pages, along with 276 illustratins in b&w. This book is based on five lectures delivered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Februrary and March 1930. 'Irish crosses are mysterious and enigmatic- the reason, perhaps, that students of mediaeval art outside of Ireland seem seldom to have been aware of their existence, and that an influential school of archaeology has gone so far as to doubt whether the art of sculpture in stone was practised in post-classical Europe before the 12th century. That question at least will be laid to rest be even a superficial study of the Irish monuments." VERY GOOD HARDCOVER, green cloth covers, lettering is bright on the spine, ex-library from Phillips Exeter Academy. A nice clean tight copy. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
