Pp. xx+42, 192 plates (32 coloured, the others tinted), black & white decorative initials; med. 4to; beige buckram, spine blocked in black and lettered & ruled in gilt (quite rubbed), upper board with wide decorative border in blue surrounding a large coloured pictorial onlay, the boards slightly soiled and browned, edges rubbed and fore-corners lightly bruised; tape repair to gutter between pates 80 & 81, a little light soiling and browning, outer leaves and edges a trifle foxed; Doubleday, Doran & co., Inc., New York, 1942. Harry Twyford Peters (1881-1948) was a leading collector of Americana, and an expert on the prints produced by Currier & Ives, the printmaking firm that operated in New York City between 1835 and 1907, producing and selling lithographic works based on news events and popular culture.
