Red-orange cloth lightly soiled, spine heel frayed with 1.5cm loss of cloth at bottom right leaving spine's underlying cardstock exposed, nick at spine head and top edge of front board, cloth nicked at bottom corner of front board, green and gray lettering and decoration upon spine and front board remains fairly bright save for the moderately dulled Doubleday Doran imprint at spine heel. Dark colored top edge, deckle fore-edge. Endpapers browned. Top corner of pages 49/50 creased from past fold-down. Common fault of slight split to binding evident at last quire between pages 270 and 271. Introduction by Katherine Anne Porter. A CURTAIN OF GREEN features seventeen short stories and was Welty's first published book. Please refer to #A2:1 in Noel Polk's EUDORA WELTY; A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF HER WORK. Welty's signature is on the front free endpaper and is probably fairly contemporary with the book's publication for it is in a bold and firm hand and does not show the compactness so often demonstrated by later examples. A good copy. Description copyright David Hallinan, Bookseller. Bookseller Inventory #
