Prague: L. Maz??, 1938. Octavo (20.3 ? 14 cm). Original cloth with original pictorial dust jacket by Franti?ek Muzika; 238, [4] pp. Front endpaper and title with stamp of a private library ("d. Mikysky"); else about very good. Although less well-known than Teige, ?tyrsk?, and Sutnar, Muzika (1900?1974) was a key representative of the Czech avant-garde and a founding member of Dev?tsil. Active in a wide range of media and other endeavors, including painting, graphic design, set design, illustration, directing, and teaching, Muzika also created a range of experimental book covers beginning in the late 1920s. He served as art director of the publishing house "Aventinum," adding his own covers which "in their simplicity and use of white space . represent a distinct step beyond the rich poetist cover" (Jind?ich Toman, Photo/Montage in Print, p. 197). Translated by Bo?ena Merd?ov? Second edition with this design by Muzika. Vloemans 373; not in Toman. As of September 2022, OCLC locates three holdings in North American institutions.
