About this title
Catledge's photographs of the people of Cabbagetown, a small, impoverished milltown not far from downtown Atlanta, are derivative, both in style and content, of the documentary work of the FSA photographers: Evans, Lange, et al. Catledge, however, is an amateur, and though competent in technique, his work lacks a maturity of photographic vision. Busy backgrounds detract from the power of the subjects' expressions, and collectively the work suffers from a sameness: lots of dirty-faced children holding pets, lots of adults holding babies. A respectable effort by a photographer who has the potential to accomplish more. Frank Schroth, Technology Training Associates, Cambridge, Mass.
