A biography of Julius Caesar by James Anthony Froude. Caesar was a successful general who subdued Gaul and eventually became dictator of Rome. Includes a tissue-guarded engraved frontis portrait of Caesar and a 25 cm wide x 19 cm tall folded map of Gallia, bound at rear of the volume. Froude (1818-1894) was a sometimes-controversial English historian whose many works of history and other writings were much admired in his time. --- In full blue cloth-covered boards with spine titling in gilt, TEG (top edge gilt). Volume lacks a dust jacket. --- With a speck of tan paint to spine, acidic bleed-through from the frontis portrait (despite the tissue guard), else a tightly-bound, well-preserved copy.; Small Octavo - 7-1/2 to 8 in. tall; xviii, 550 pages.
