Kurutz - CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH #312a - "Harlan came overland to California with the Boggs-Moran Party, joined Fremont's California Battalion, and participated in the conquest of California.". Beginning on page 126 Harlan recounts the discovery of gold, his mining on the Middle Fork of the American River, later in the Southern Mines near Sonora.
