From colophon, "An edition of six hundred copies for Biobooks, Oakland 10, California, 1950". 174 pages with aj 16 x 22 inch foldout map of California in 1852. Stephen Johnson Field (1816-1899) was a Connecticut born lawyer who traveled to California in 1848. He had a very successful career, becoming Alcalde (municipal authority) of Marysville, California Supreme Court Justice in 1857, and United States Supreme Court Justice in 1863. He printed his reminiscences of early California, as well as other notable events in his career, for private distribution around 1875.
