About this Item

(August, 1999). Limited edition of 1500 copies. Signed by both editors (Nolan and Schafer). 8vo. pp. [2], 285, [1]. With 4 leaves of photo illustrations of authors represented in the anthology. Bound in dark blue publisher’s cloth with dust jacket. The binding is clean and fresh. The dust jacket is generally clean but shows some signs of rubbing to the rear wrap. Interior pages are clean. "Here is a long-awaited, landmark anthology, the first book to showcase what has come to be known inliterary circles as "The Group" – a dozen supremely talented writers who, beginning in the 1950’s and 1960’s, established the roots of today’s quality SF and fantasy. Such legendary individuals as Ray Bradbury, Richard Matheson, Harlan Ellison, Charles Beaumont, and Robert Bloch have all been part of what critics dubbed the "California School Nine of the 12 stories presented here are originals. Christopher Conlon has contributed a revealing, historically comprehensive ‘Group portrait’, and each story is prefaced by a personal headnote relating to the author" [from the dust jacket].
