About this Item

60pp extract, printed in double columns, illustrated with 53 characteristic Harper's engravings of general interest, pages generally clean with very occasional insignificant foxing, salvaged from damaged issues of Harper's New Monthly Magazine, Volume XXVI, Nos. 152, 153, & 154, January / February / March, 1863. The author's three-part account of his tour. From the opening paragraph, "Not many years have passed since it was considered something of an achievement to visit Iceland. The traveler who had the hardihood to penetrate the chilly fogs of the north, and journey by the compass through a region of everlasting snows and desolating fires, could well afford to stay at home during the remainder of his life, satisfied with the reputation generally according him by his fellow-men." Housed in protective mylar report cover with spine sleeve. Very scarce. Bookseller Inventory # 018410
