About this Item

This is the uncommon second US edition of this title. The very scarce first edition dates from 1934. This edition (the first and, I believe, only printing thereof) includes a Critical Introduction by Maxwell Geismar, The History of Henry Roth and Call It Sleep by Harold U. Ribalow, and A Personal Appreciation by Meyer Levin. A fine book (full grey cloth) - spine tips a little crimped, but no foxing, off-setting (or any other marking) in the interior. There is a small, gold bookseller's label at the top of the front pasteddown - "Kieffer's Jewish Book Store" in Chicago. The dustjacket is very good plus, with some wear at the spine tips (short tears, tiny chips) and a couple of tears at the front fold: about 3/4" at the top corner and a little over 1" at the bottom. The jacket is bright - not much (if any) fading, the flaps are not creased, and it is not price-clipped ($5.95). A solid and attractive copy. 599 pages. Bookseller Inventory # 5014
