Book Description Da Capo Press, New York, 1968. Hardcover. Reprint. A folio size reprint of the first edition of this famous photo book originally published in 1950. Weston first met Point Lobos on a day in 1915 when friends, traveling with him along the California coast, said he must see this place for its beauty and its wonder. There was a summer storm that day, the sky cloudless and bright, the air still beneath a glittering sun; yet the waters of the sea, impelled by some distant and invisible upheaval, surged thundering against the headland rock and swept furies of white foam hissing up the narrow inlets. But at the time Weston was engrossed in working with people before his lens. Although Point Lobos impressed him, he had no thought of setting up his camera there. Later, his first negatives were close-ups, fragments of cypress root, of stone, and as his knowledge of the place expanded, so did the area his lens embraced. With 30 magnificent full-page plates and excerpts from Edward Weston's daybook. Plus Ansel Adams' note describing Weston's technique. 80pp. A near fine copy bound in black cloth with silver lettering, in a near fine dust jacket. Seller Inventory # 13944
