SIGNED BY PRESIDENT ANWAR SADAT, PRIME MINISTER MENACHEM BEGIN, AND PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER on the cancelled envelope. Sixteen months after Anwar Sadat’s historic visit to Israel, the Israel — Egypt peace treaty was signed in Washington. It contains nine articles, a military annex, and annex dealing with the relation between the parties. The ceremony on the White House lawn in Washington, DC was broadcast live on television. The two leaders sealed the deal with a firm handshake, watched by a smiling President Jimmy Carter.
