Engraved map, with an outer decorative frame printed from a separate plate (lower margin trimmed to image area of frame border and remargined). The third state of Van der Aa's map of eastern Canada, noted for its decorative engraved frame border. First published in 1714, Van der Aa used the De L'Isle map of 1703 as the basis for his own map, with a similar mapping of the Great Lakes. In the present third state, the engraved frame border has been added, replacing the previous border. Kershaw, Early Printed Maps of Canada 329; cf. Phillips Atlases III, 3485. Bookseller Inventory #
