Synopsis: An ideal book for readers wanting to learn more about Canada. It is written for readers whose first language is not English.

About the Author: The author was a teacher for 30 years. She has taught at the university level, in Secondary Schools and most extensively in Elementary Schools. She retired from the position of Teacher - Librarian in a Vancouver elementary school in December 1994. The author has lived and worked in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. She has, additionally, travelled widely within Canada and abroad. She is an unashamed Canadian patriot with a serious desire to engender in others an appreciation of Canada, its heritage, its present reality and its enormous potential. The author has written numerous school-based curricula, and co-operated in the writing of a variety of teaching units. She has been published in the B.C. Teacher Magazine. She is fortunate in having worked in a wide variety of school situations, including a three-year loan of service appointment to teach in a Canadian NATO school in Germany. She has taught in French, although she does not claim to be totally bilingual. She taught ESL students for much of her career. Most recently the author has been a volunteer teacher of English to groups of recent immigrants at the Richmond Multicultural Concerns Society. These connections to the immigrant community have greatly helped to motivate the writing of this series of books. The author has no doubt that there is both a need and a market for a series of books such as this one about Canada. It is, in fact, long overdue.
