About this Item

Canalization is the improvement of a river for navigation by conservation of the natural watercourse into a succession of pools of nearly level surface. This process often requires more elaborate structural types, and introduces more complex problems of design than does the actual construction of the canal. This text is devoted entirely to canalized rivers. It features sections on: elements of locks and dams, the layout of a canalization project, American canalization projects, and design of locks and dams. This text was prepared for the Engineering Construction Course at teh Engineer School in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Volume I: 170 pages plus a 17-page index; Volume II: 398 pages plus a 17-page index. Diagrams, schematics, formulas. Both volumes have some staining, apparently from dampness, along the bottom. Red cover color has bled to first few inside pages. Previous owner's name stamped on upper edge of both volumes and along lower edge.Title page of Volume II has a tear. Interiors are clean. 2 volume set; will require additional postage to ship. Bookseller Inventory # 009597
