Miguel Santana was born in Jurez, Mexico. Before publishing "Cuando cantan los lagartos", he worked as an editor for Spanish textbooks in the United States. He also taught Spanish at the University of Texas at Austin. He has published several stories in various magazines and university periodicals. He currently lives in Austin, where he is finishing his doctorate in Spanish-American Literature.
