About this Item

142 p. Bright blue lightly ribbed cloth over boards. White framed stamped front title box, white titles. 5.25x8in. Stitched binding. RARE original publication. Author of "The Jungle", the "Lanny Budd" series, and other early 20th century literary realism novels, Upton Sinclair's voice was strong during the industrial revolution and the poorly managed growth of cities. Written five years earlier and then considered "unpublishable", Sinclair wrote in a Preface that his thoughts here must have been "revolutionary"; in the interim, "literature of exposure" had appeared by Steffens on politics, Tarbell on railroad rebates, and others. Very good. No dust jacket. Signed by previous owne: J.C. Avery, Sunapee, N.H., Jan 1, 1910. Top edge dust soil darkening. Front pages section out of sync, not loose (production error). Lower page block shallow bug damage; no life. Minor back cover dye. Bookseller Inventory # Alibris.E0110003637

Store Description

Hi, Folks ... Mom said, 'I need to downsize'. Moving to assisted living, what she couldn't take included 8,000-plus books & records. A decade later, my upcountry barn is bursting. Books multiply as others recycle priorities. I now have 30,000 or more books (not yet all online) looking for good homes, and my learning curve has been a roller coaster. I celebrate word-crafters, thought-tumblers, laughter ... the arts of communication at every turn. I preserve, protect, and share. I am also Hedgehog Publishing, 'Words & Pictures by & for Folks with Prickly Backs, Soft Bellies, & Small Brains'.
