The biography of American sailing ship captain, Nathaniel Brown Palmer (1799-1877). Palmer is particularly noted for his two trips to Antarctica, 1820-21 and 1829-30, with the Stonington whalers. An archipelago on the continent, Palmer Land, is named after him. He later captained the Yankee clippers on the China run. - "Spears had access to Palmer family papers in the possession of Mrs. Richard Fanning Loper, of Stonington, Ct., niece of Nathaniel Parker. The papers included the log of Palmer's sloop, the Hero, plus notes made by Capt. Alexander Palmer, brother of Nathaniel and father of Mrs. Loper. Historian Philip Mitterling found fault in Spear's interpretation of Palmer's log book of the Hero." -Rosove. Bookseller Inventory # NTX212
