About this Item

N.d., circa 1920s. Cards are numbered 1 to 12, with each number assigned two cards. One card depicts an activity, the second with the same number, shows a mishap occurring as a result. Thus the first card shows a boy diligently carrying sausages with a dog in tow; the pairing card has the dog running away with the sausages and the boy frantically trying to catch up. The pairs of images are humorous, notwithstanding the schadenfreude in which they traffic. There is a 25h card singleton of a dirty boy. The cards may have been intended as a game of sorts, but no rules are included, and the deck would appear to be complete, given that there is no additional room in the box. The cards may have had an instructive purpose, warning of what may befall a youngster if he is naughty, careless or carefree. The cards are tinted with orange and shades thereof. The box is without a lid or base, and that would seem how it was issued. Probably of Central European origin, but there are no words or inscription to offer more solid corroboration of this. Surely a true rarity. Bookseller Inventory # 002062

Shipping Terms:

The shipping cost provided automatically by ABE assumes that the item is the size of an average hardcover book. Since our stock is comprised largely of material which is bigger and heavier, we will often need to request additional shipping charges as a result. We pride ourselves on always packing safely, with the actual materials and method of packing depending on the item(s), where it is going, and with whom we are shipping. We most frequently use the post office, but on some high value items, or upon request, we may use alternatively UPS or FedEx. With the postal service, to domestic destinations with lower value items and the automatically furnished ABE shipping quote, we will usually use Media Mail; on higher value items we are partial to Priority or Express Mail. We will always seek to comply with a customer's wishes if they are communicated to us. When we seek additional shipping charges, we pass along those charges at our cost -- we do not add for handling or materials generally.
