About this Item

1846 map of Europe with colored outlines. This map is based on the Paris meridian. The northern edge is 57 degrees latitude which includes all of Ireland and Scotland with just the southern tips of Norway and Sweden, but including the entire Gulf of Finland. The eastern edge is 40 degrees longitude which includes eastern Russia down to western Turkey. The southern edge is about 33.5 degrees latitude which includes all of southern Europe and just the northern tip of Africa. The left side of the map's 4 panels are filled with charts. 90 cm. by 120 cm. (36" by 48"). Cut and mounted onto a clean, grey linen backing. Divided into 32, 6" by 9" sections. 4 sections high and 8 sections across. The countries are in off-white with the seas colored a light grey. The only colors used in the map are the borders between countries which are either pink, grey or aqua blue. Clean and tight - very occasional foxing with a small stain in one panel. In the original, open-ended slipcase. One side of the slipcase has a 5 inch by 7 inch (125mm by 175mm) yellow label with the title of the map and a small sketch of the entire map. The other side of the slipcase has a 4-1/2 inch by 2-3/4 inch (112mm by 68mm) beige label listing other maps done by this publisher - Louis Ronchi. The panels are still crisp and they fold very neatly to fit into the 6-1/2 inch by 9 inch folder. The folder is a clean, green marbled cardboard with a little rubbing to the corners.
