About this Item

B01AFB5QM0 No date, but circa 1904, Vereinigte Kunstanstalten (Munich, Germany), 5 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches tall paperbound in light brown printed covers, copiously illustrated with black-and-white photographs and drawings, 92 pp. plus publisher's ads and folding map at rear of volume. Light rubbing and edgewear to covers, ith a bit of creasing to the lower tips of the frot and rear cover. Four leaves (pp. 41-48) appear to have been roughly separated, with chipping a tearing to the fore edge toward the top of the pages. Otherwise, apart from slight age toning, a very good copy - clean and unmarked - of this very scarce, copiously illustrated, early twentieth century guide in English to Linderhof Palace, a Schloss in Bavaria, and Konigshaus am Schachen, a smaller castle - both built by King Ludwig II. OCLC locates no copies of this Munich edition at institutions worldwide, though it does record a 1904 imprint from the publisher Speiser in Prien am Chiemsee (No. 48261391), locating one copy at Yale University. ~SP43~ Contents: Preface; Routes by which to reach Linderhof; The Hundings Hut and the Hermitage; Castle Linderhof; The Interior of the Castle; The Grounds; Konigshaus Schachen. Linderhof Palace is a Schloss in Germany, in southwest Bavaria near Ettal Abbey. It is the smallest of the three palaces built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and the only one which he lived to see completed. This guide also covers The King's House on Schachen (Konigshaus am Schachen), a small castle (Schlosschen) at Schachen, Wetterstein mountain massif, about 10 km south of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany, also built by Ludwig II.
