About this Item

N.d. (preface dated 1864). "Author's American Edition" stated on title page. 12mo. in violet cloth; 359 pp. with frontis and four additional illustrations. Charming hand drawn design of a scroll and holly in red and green on the first blank with the notation "Michael Spellman from the Sisters of Mrecy, Christmas, 1870". A tight example with front hinge starting, a tear to the final leaf of text not affecting the text. Cloth with wear and soiling. The possibly apocryphal tale, with stront Catholic overtones, of a n 18th century sailor shipwrecked along with five shipmates (one of whom was a Catholic priest). Bookseller Inventory # E14387
