Description: This was originally published by Doubleday, Doran & Company under the title Cattle. Includes a frontis photo plate, seven additional black and white plates, and one in-text line drawing (the illustrations list shows the drawing incorrectly as being on page 182, it should read 183). ''Here is the story of the cowboy, the bad man, the rustler, the two-gun sheriff, the Indian fighter, the buffalo hunter, in relation to their times and their economic background.'' (from the Introduction by Harry E Maule. The jacket blurb reads, in part: ''Indians, cattle rustlers, bad men, sheriffs, cattle wars, sheep wars, nesters, Dodge, Abilene, Tombstone, mushroom red-eye towns, cattle kings and English financiers; all these are a part of the violent history of cattle, the most romantic chapter of our national life.''
