About this Item

8vo, in worn and damaged black cloth. Three sample spines in green cloth are laid down on the front free endpaper, and three sample brown leather spines gilt on the rear pastedown. The volume begins with a five-page publicity announcement (the last page carrying a facsimile of a Scott letter), with printed slip in red ink announcing that 'THIS EDITION | being specially prepared for Subscribers, is not obtainable through the general Booksellers.' There follow a selection of coloured plates, more publicity matter, a selection of plates in black and white, specimenn title-pages and pages of text, and a final four pages set out for subscribers to sign beside a record of the number of copies they require. The only other copy of this item traced on COPAC at the National Library of Scotland, by whom it is dated to the 1890s. Bookseller Inventory # 14428
