Original brown cloth with beveled covers, with legible gilt spine lettering very good+ with firm hinges; light edge wear and rubbing. The endpapers with an inked inscription dated 1962 have darkened, else text is very good+ tight. 343 pages.with a 12-page chart, an outline of the rise of realism in the prose fiction of Spain, England and France, as illustrated by the picaresque novel, etc. Translated from the Spanish by James Mabbe, anno 1631.
