About this title

Synopsis:

A new book on Central Oregon titled Central Oregon Impressions presents this remarkable region of rugged mountains and beautiful high desert in all of its breathtaking glory. It reminds locals why they stay, and visitors why they return year after year to this gorgeous slice of Oregon. Three of the northwest s finest photographers collaborated on this project, a surprisingly affordable softcover book of exquisite color photography, complemented by informative captions. David M. Morris, Fred Pflughoft, and Bob Woodward all have called Bend home, and their intimacy with the area is reflected in the subjects they choose to photograph, which range from the jagged profile of Broken Top Mountain to the sparkling waters of the Deschutes River, from rock climbers at Smith Rock State Park to cross-country skiers at the Mount Bachelor Nordic Center, from western storefronts in Sisters to hot air balloons over Bend.

About the Author:

David M. Morris' love of photography began on early backpacking trips in the Cascades. After graduating from Washington State University with a degree in Geology, serving in the Army, and traveling around the world for a year and a half, he earned a degree in photography at Brooks Institute of Photography. For the past 26 years he has been a freelance photographer in Bend. His pictures have been published in the Sierra Club and Audubon calendars, in magazines such as Sunset, Oregon Coast, Down East, Bend Living, Cascades East, Backpacker, Architectural Digest, and several other publications. Fred Pflughoft began his professional photography career in 1988 while living in Bend, Oregon. The spectacular scenery of Central Oregon has been an inspiration to him throughout his career. His full-color photography appears regularly in both regional and national publications, as well as on postcards and calendars. He now has over two dozen books in print, including Yellowstone: Wild and Beautiful, Grand Teton: Wild and Beautiful, Wyoming: Wild and Beautiful II, and Wind River Range Impressions. Bob Woodwardworks primarily as a freelancer, interspersed with stints as an editor at Times-Mirror Magazines, Ziff-Davis, CBS Magazines, and the New York Times Magazine Group.Bob is active in Bend theater, writes a column in the local independent weekly newspaper, and hosts an outdoor segment on local television. He served as Bend's mayor from 1997 to 1999. Currently he is on the board of directors for the Bend Metro Park and Recreation District, and the Deschutes Basin Land Trust.
