About this Item

This is an important, worthy, and still relevant book, entirely legible but discounted because it is Ex Lib and some wear. But it is a true edition from 1881. Bound in dark green cloth boards with bright gold lettering, corners lightly bumped but wear evident along gutters and top and bottom of spine. Library packet and loan card on inside of rear board. Text block otherwise clean and firm, pages unmarked. Full title page is whole and intact, but detached. A classic in the study of oppression of American Indian tribes, including chapters on The Delawares, Cherokees, Nez Perces, Sioux, Poncas, Winnebagoes, and the Cheyennes. Info on the Sand Creek Massacre, extracts from the Report of the Commission sent to meet the Sioux Chief Sitting Bull, woodcutting by Indians in Dakota, and the Walla Walla Massacre. The author was a poet and friend of Emily Dickinson. The book is scarce in any condition and has been discounted because of the above defects. Bookseller Inventory # 151016
