About this title

Synopsis:

Few nineteenth-century artists have been more in need of an authoritative biography than Charles Meryon. Roger Collins's new biography is the product of 40 years of research. Collins examines Meryon's life as a whole rather than focusing solely upon his years as an artist. This depth of focus helps us to understand some of the qualities in his prints - qualities which secured his reputation as one of the world's greatest printmakers.

About the Author:

Roger Collins, a New Zealander, has a particular interest in Charles Meryon. His writings on the artist include an article on the MINISTERE DE LA MARINE, an edition of Meryon's PROJECTS notebook and an exhibition catalogue NEW ZEALAND SEEN BY THE FRENCH. He is probably best known as the author of CHARLES MERYON, A BIBLIOGRAPHY (1986) which covered every known published source on Meryon from 1837 to 1984.
