About this Item

19 pp. 8vo. Sir Herbert Read (1893–1968) was an English poet and critic of literature and art, He was most interested in English Romantic Poets. His military service in World War I was distinguished. Later he was a professor, a Trustee of the Tate Gallery and a curator at the Victoria & Albert Museum. Although knighted by Prime Minister Winston Churchill for his service to literature, he was an anarchist, but an idealist, not a militant; moreover, in criticism, he was not a Marxist, but fostered a psychological view of art as contributing to the mind’s consciousness. Here, extracted from the Yale Review. is an article on the Brontës which reveals well his critical methodologies and the brilliant insights resulting. Added wraps chipped. Else, Very Good +.
