Люблю пофилософствовать, да и жанр Екклесиаста к тому обязывает. Его рассуждения порой вызывали у меня растерянность и уныние, а в какие-то моменты он виделся мне чуть ли не еретиком. Недоумевая, я оценивал некоторые утверждения в свете классического богословия и изумлялся: как эта книга попала в канон?! Так что мне жизненно важно было найти рациональное объяснение его высказываниям, да и самой книге в целом. Я мог целый день биться над одним стихом и ни к чему не прийти. Бывали минуты, когда я вскакивал, нервно ходил взад и вперед и, признаюсь, роптал (в основном на Соломона касательно того, что, мол, можно было изъясняться проще). Трудности толкования заставляли молиться и уповать на Бога, ибо только Он открывает ум к уразумению Писаний (Лук. 24:45). В некоторых местах Синодальный перевод нуждался в доработках, и я взял на себя смелость внести соответствующие поправки.
