About the Author: Eric Maw was born in Oxford, England and raised in Canada. He received his Master of Science degree from the University of Alberta in the area of biological control of weeds. He has been a research and curatorial technician at the Canadian National Collection of Insects within Agriculture and Agri-Foods Canada for the past 10 years, working on the systematics of aphids, psyllids, thrips, and related groups. He is also interested in the application of computer technologies in the management of taxonomic data.
Bob Foottit was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. He received his Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees from Simon Fraser University, with an emphasis on insect biosystematics. He has been a research scientist at the Canadian National Collection of Insects within Agriculture and Agri-Foods Canada since 1986, working on the systematics of aphids, psyllids, thrips, plant bugs, and related groups. His research interests also include molecular and morphometric methods of taxonomic analysis and the application of systematics in pest management. He has served as Treasurer and is currently Vice-President of the Entomological Society of Canada.
Andy Hamilton was born in Nottingham, England and raised in Canada. He received his Masters and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Georgia in insect biosystematics under H.H. Ross. He has been a research scientist at the Canadian National Collection of Insects since 1972, working on the systematics of leafhoppers, spittlebugs, planthoppers, treehoppers, and cicadas with a special interest in prairie faunas, host associations, and fossils. He is also an illustrator and book review editor for Biodiversity.
Geoff Scudder was born in Kent, England and received his D. Phil. in Entomology from Oxford University. From 1958 until his recent retirement, he was a professor of entomology at the University of British Columbia, serving for 16 of those years as head of the Department of Zoology. His research interests include the biosystematics, evolution, and ecology of the Hemiptera and the general topics of insect biodiversity and conservation. Geoff is currently a member of a number of advisory bodies and has received numerous honours, including being made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
