At the age of 24 in 1936 he landed in China as a Lutheran missionary all alone to guard the huge Lutheran compound in Hankow with a defective Luger, a police dog, and eventually hundreds of peasant women seeking protectition from rape. Later he became a chaplain for Chennault's Flyiong Tigers. From there he was back in China working in a number of jobs. Book is illsutrated with photographs and mesures 6" x 8-3.4" and has 291 pages.
