8vo, pp. xxiv, 595; adverts on endpapers; folding railroad map, tables throughout; original blue cloth lettered in black on upper cover and spine; ex-Purdue Library, with pocket on rear pastedown (obscuring some of the advertising matter), small stamp on froint fre endpaper, 2 Chinese chops on title page, penultimate page of the index, and on fore-edge, slight evidence of label removal on spine and ujpper cover; text lightly toned; library marks aside a good,sound, and clean copy. History and description, particulars of trade, manufacturing, communication, government, finance, defense, shipping, religions, public health, politics and treaties, who's who, foreigners, and other cultural aspects, including a chapter on opium.
