About this Item

Both massive volumes with Volume 2 containing 243 pastedown (mostly color) pictures of the Chinese pottery of the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). Both volumes have 468 pages with much on the marks, symbols and information in this era that illustrates in a unique way how the Silk Road's maritime route connected the Islamic world in western Asia to Southeast Asia and the coasts of China, Korea and Japan. The date the boat shipped out from Qingyuan [present day Ningbo) sank not to be discovered for another 650 years. Both for its assisting the collector and museum specialist to identify the finest Celadon ware of the era as well as identifying history the discovery was essential. Professor Wondong Kim here has helped establish the area where the original kiln sites existed. Before this discovery historians had to depend on the Zhida tongbao coins which Yuanshi dates at A.D. 1310, Unlike the microfilm versions, this original copy has the 243 images which allow an exact quality image for the researcher. The work is sited in John N. Miksic's, Singapore and the Silk road of the Sea, p 467; Derek Heng's, Sino-Malay Trade and diplomacy from the Tenth through the Fourteenth Century, p. 271; and Robert Finlay's, The Pilgrim Art: Cultures of Porcelain in World History, p. 302.
