About this Item

This book is in the publisher's binding and it contains 5 different novels by 4 authors. The title page has a large heading of "Choice Novels", and has the subtitles of: "Kitty's Choice, A Story of Berrytown", by Rebecca Harding Davis; "Over Yonder - A Novelette", translated from the German of E. (Eugenie) Marlitt; "Irene, A Tale of Southern Life" and "Hathaway Strange", no author given; "For Percival - A Novel", no author given, but by Margaret Veley. The pages are numbered 74; 43; 50; 51-69; 286. Following "Kitty's Choice" are 2 other short novels included in the same pagination also by Rebecca Harding Davis, which are "Leonard Heath's Fortune" and "Balacchi Brothers". The book is generally very clean with some small spots to the covers. Tightly bound in brick red cloth, with perfectly attached covers having very good, unworn edges. There is a very small closed tear to the top of the spine. Still bright, gilt lettered "Choice Novels" on the spine. The pages are very clean, are stil crisp and are tightly bound. The text is printed in double columns, and all the stories are published by Lippincott. The only date is a copyright date of 1878 for "For Percival". There are no ownership inscriptions or bookplates. I am guessing at a publication date around 1885. Bookseller Inventory # 14876
