Description:

Size: 12mo. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Tan cloth over boards, 56 pages. Bouck White, 1874-1951, was "an American clergyman and author, born in Middleburg, N.Y. He was ordained as a Congregational minister in 1904, but was dismissed from his post at Trinity House, Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1913 because of his Call of the Carpenter (1911), which portrayed Jesus as a social agitator. He then founded the Church of the Social Revolution in New York City and soon acquired a reputation as an eccentric radical. He was imprisoned several times for actions connected with his socialistic views. In the 1930s he retired to a mountain retreat in Voorheesville, N.Y." This copy has a Church of the Social Revolution label pasted on the front endpaper; it lists Bouck White as the Founder-Leader, states that weekly services were held every Sunday afternoon at three o'clock at Bryant Hall on 6th Ave. in New York City, and has the wonderful slogan: "Come, sing with us the folk upheaval and grow a Socialism of the heart." The covers of this copy are in poor condition showing a lot of wear along all the edges, corners and spine ends bumped with wear, half-inch piece of cloth missing at top of spine, covers are soiled, front cover starting to separate from binding, inner hinges are cracked; textblock is clean, no writing or marks, and the binding is still intact.
