Book Description The Doves Press, Hammersmith, 1911. 4p. 23.5cm. Loose as issued in printed brown wrappers. First printing with errors later corrected. Small spot on front cover. In very good condition. A long letter written by Cobden-Sanderson on city planning and reprinted at the Doves Press as a free gift to subscribers. Cobden-Sanderson writes about the 1910 International Town Planning Conference, held in London from October 10th to the 15th. " "Mean streets make mean citizens and mean citizens mean streets." Perhaps these two sentences contain the moral of the speeches and papers on the moral aspect of the question. But neither the "making" of citizens nor the making of "streets" is, or should be, in the planning of cities, the main inspiration or ambition of a city planned, important as they are on the way towards and as a means to an end still nobler, if more remote."
