Title: Civil War and Reconstruction in Alabama.
Publisher: Peter Smith, New York
Publication Date: 1949
Small 4to. Tan cloth with black spine lettering. xxiii, 815pp (4pp reduced text pages per leaf, thus ca. 200pp). Illustrations, maps. Very good. Faint binding wear -- internally near fine. Tight, attractive reprint edition of the scarce 1905 first edition, which Thomas A. Belser Jr. critiqued: "Fleming's biased treatment of Reconstruction does not alter this work's status as the best study of Alabama during the war years." Large faint mark on front pastedown from bookplate removal, partly covered by smaller "From the Library of" bookplate (with blank area for name to be fille in). Even this reduced micro-print edition is rather uncommon. NEVINS II, 219. Bookseller Inventory # 37426
