About this Item

397 p. Durable buckram tan cloth over boards. Stamped brown titles. 5.25x7.75in. Maroon top page block. Untrilled other blocks. German classic novel about youths (including the author) born in 1902 who became eligible to be called into the Army in 1918, World War I. The boys are middle class and in 1914, during which this story takes focus, they were most impressionable, malleable, suddenly plunged into war while still discovering the mystery of puberty. When the Nazis came to power in 1933, book burnings followed. Glaeser's view was considered pacifist, and he emigrated to first one then another neighboring country. He returned to Germany in 1939 as an editor. This work had been highly praised by other German writers of the era. Very good in good dust jacket. Signed by previous owner. Right page block, some spotting. Sturdy, tight. Jacket has edge wear, a few short tears, general soiling. Bookseller Inventory # Alibris.F0007288

Store Description

Hi, Folks ... Mom said, 'I need to downsize'. Moving to assisted living, what she couldn't take included 8,000-plus books & records. A decade later, my upcountry barn is bursting. Books multiply as others recycle priorities. I now have 30,000 or more books (not yet all online) looking for good homes, and my learning curve has been a roller coaster. I celebrate word-crafters, thought-tumblers, laughter ... the arts of communication at every turn. I preserve, protect, and share. I am also Hedgehog Publishing, 'Words & Pictures by & for Folks with Prickly Backs, Soft Bellies, & Small Brains'.
