First edition. Gray cloth in unclipped jacket. 246 pp including index. With black and white photos, as well as a section of color photos. Appears SIGNED by the author on the first endpaper, dated 1980. A detailed and comprehensive look at the craft of fly fishing rods in the United States, proceeding chronologically and geographically and examining the work of Samuel Phillippe, Hiram Leonard, E.F. Payne, E.W. Edwards, Nathaniel Uslan and many others. Keane was a noted collector of fly fishing rods and gear, as well as a staff member at the Museum of American Fly Fishing. GOOD jacket on a VERY GOOD book. HEAVY chipping, tearing and loss along the upper jacket edge, with a 2 inch piece of the upper spine MISSING. Several creases along this extremity. Minor to moderate chipping and tearing along the lower edge, with a 3/4 inch chip missing from the foot of the spine. Minor fading and rubbing to the jacket.
