Most unusual ABC/Trade Promotion for scissors maker. 8vo. Unpaginated, 16 pp., including wraps. Each letter of alphabet is used as the opening letter of a well-known nursery rhyme, modified to incorporate and plug Clauss shears, a company founded in 1877 and still in business today. This item, while undated, is circa 1890s. It is very much of its period, not only in the dress, but in the items described (razor strops) and the illustrations, which are rendered in color. As a promotion, this went beyond the norm of the day in its ambition, and in its indirect approach to selling, seeking to win the patronage of parents with a freebie for their children. Without the promotional aspect, this would be a plausible juvenile book. The promotional dimension, though, is what makes it more interesting today. Light wear, with the cover having a few light stains and age toning. Bookseller Inventory # 002823
