About this Item

4to. 757 pp. Full page illustrations, index. Original dark green cloth, gilt-stamped cover and spine titles. Ex-library bookplate with embossed stamp on title, spine call number painted over. Very good. "Ochsner, a graduate of Rush Medical College, held for many years the chair of clinical surgery at the University of Illinois and was also chief surgeon to Augustana Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital in Chicago. He was one of the leading American surgeons during the early twentieth century when Chicago was a very active and progressive center of clinical medicine and medical research. Ochsner was a practical and meticulous operator who was thoroughly conversant with the principles of surgery, he was a highly effective teacher, and his writings covered a great variety of subjects. The present work went through five editions, is very well organized, and is written in simple, practical language with well-chosen illustrations which made it a popular textbook for several decades." Heirs of Hippocrates No. 2215 (1st ed.). Bookseller Inventory # M11344
