About this Item

This classic is usually found in tattered condition. This is a first printing (stated) of the first trade edition. The first state DJ also has "I/66" on the lower front flap, and two lines of print on the rear flyleaf stating "Publishers of the American College Dictionary and the Modern Library," which do not appear on later or BC editions. Dark blue top-stained edges; rough cut side edges and smooth bottom. (Most BCE copies are just the opposite). Maroon cloth boards with TC on front, and title, author and publisher clearly embossed on the spine. Previous owner's signature on ffep; another owner's signature is on the first white page. Most copies of this classic available on the open market these days have been around the bend a bit. This copy has too, but it is still a relatively handsome and intact copy. The binding is clean and tight. There is a light scuff mark on the inside board at the top, and the upper corners are slightly bumped. There is slight wear on the DJ at tops, along the outer edge, and small chips missing at the top and bottom of the spine. There is a small closed tear on the cover near the spine. DJ is price-clipped. Capote's breakthrough book, and one whose influence continues to reverberate. On top of that, it's still a gripping read, and increasingly hard to find in this imperfect but still attractive condition. Bookseller Inventory # 130313
