Book Description Feral House, Portland, Oregon, 1996. Trade Paperback. Book Condition: Near Fine. 1996 New Edition. 117 Pages. Page 7 has five lines of yellow hi-lighting. No other defects noted to this tight book with flawless remaining pages. No other marks or stamps. This disturbing book unearths the tale behind the 1964 murders of three teenage girls by Charles Schmid, a regular cruiser along Tucson, Arizona's glittery strip. Schmid emerges as one of the most fascinating psychopaths of modern times. Triple murder charges brought against the twenty-three year-old on November 10, 1965, resulted in one of the Southwest's most sensational murder cases. Its notoriety reached around the world. The desert community of Tucson was flooded with reporters, some from as far away as Paris and Tokyo. The pretrial publicity played so heavily on the gruesome and sordid aspects of the crimes that several of the reporters claimed it would be impossible to find an impartial jury in Arizona, or perhaps anywhere in the Southwest. Shortly before Schmid's first murder trial the author became involved in the case as a free-lance journalist and became acquainted on the third day of his first trial, and remained involved with him during that period of his life and the year to follow. All quotations attributed to him are taken from his diaries and letters, and from conversations with Schmid over several months at the Pima County Jail in Tucson, and on Death Row at the Arizona State Penitentiary in Florence. This book is a reconstruction of that time in Tucson, and all material not derived from official sources, court proceedings, and actual occurrences is the result of extensive interviews and close contact with principals whose names appear throughout the text. The names of a few individuals who played a minor role in this case have been changed. Included is a Publisher's Preface to this New 1996 Edition as well as the Author's Preface to the First Edition. Also include are photos, line drawings, and maps. Size: 8 1/2" X 11". Bookseller Inventory # 16836
