Synopsis: The Stegmaier Brewing Company and its products were an important component of Norheastern Pennsylvania's identity for decades. Founded in 1857, the company thrived and failed twice in its 117-year history. The Stegmaier story is one of industrial expansion, condsiderable capital investment, and the evolution of a complex industrial facility. It is the story of scientific brewing technologies, the production of high-quality, distinctive beer, and the development of a fiercely loyal base of customers. Finally, it is the story of the preservaion of an architectually magnificant industrial complex, once doomed for destruction. The book contains 32 photographs and illustrations, many of which were never previously published. The book contains a full list of references and an extensive bibliography.

About the Author: Robert A. Janosov is a Professor of History and a Historic Preservation consultant, who lives in Northeastern Pennsylvania. He has authored numerous articles on the industrial history of Northeastern Pennsylvania's Anthracite Region. He served as a member of Pennsylvania's Historic Preservation Board until 1997. He is a past President of the Wyoming Historical & Geological Society, and was a founding member of the Susquehanna Chapter of the Society for Industrial Archeology.
