Synopsis: When Rebecca Jackson makes the choice to reclaim her autonomy, three generations of women embark on separate quests to the same remote family cabin in the Sierra that offers each an opportunity to put past demons to rest. Elements of nature combine with the power of ritual to strengthen and aid the women's chances for survival. Will Rebecca succeed in escaping the misery of her past decisions and find the personal determination to carry on her mission to reunite her family? Cole Creek illustrates the ability we all have to change the course of our lives. As escalating tension hurls Rebecca to a lonely precipice, she must unlock her secrets to find a chance for hope and redemption. Cole Creek is a call to let the heart have its day.
From the Author:
What woman doesn't wish at some point for a chance to reinvent herself? Just as Rebecca faces seemingly insurmountable obstacles to start living her authentic life in Cole Creek, I have resurrected the dream of becoming an author after raising four children. This story has brewed within me for more than a decade and a couple of real attempts were made during the intense parenting years. I have told the story of Cole Creek as a narration during long horseback rides to my riding partners who seemed eager to listen. The act of storytelling in its original form, the oral sharing of my ideas, helped me to shape the direction of the characters. But still, during the writing process itself, the characters became their own people, the story changed according to who they became and I let go of the trappings of any rigid structure that colored the story with preconceived ideas.
The concept of ceremony was to simply be a side note, but it instead became a strong thread throughout the book. The notion of a passage became a central theme, a catalyst in the characters' quests to realize their full potentials as human beings on this earth. My hope is that readers of Cole Creek will become inspired to make positive changes through interactions with the natural world and feel connected to other people who have made mistakes and conquered their pain to live fully.
