About this Item

Highly decorative cards with colored oval cameos of birds framed by gilt decorated morocco! Each measuring 17 by 13.5 cm. The cards were the equivalent of ribbons used in other fancier competitiions, and they came with string by which they could be easily hung on a wall. The front decorative side states the prize (first, second, third, special, etc.); the category -- buff piebald cock, hen, etc.; the club where the competition took place and the date of the competition. The verso leaves space for the entry of the name of the winner, and contains printed information on the printer, David Ritchie. Whatever the bird category, the actual bird depicted in the cameo is a stylized version of a canary or dove. None of these particular cards have any writing at all, and so they were clearly unused. There is minor scattered soiling, but all remain highly attractive. One is lacking the original string entirely. Bookseller Inventory # 003837

Shipping Terms:

The shipping cost provided automatically by ABE assumes that the item is the size of an average hardcover book. Since our stock is comprised largely of material which is bigger and heavier, we will often need to request additional shipping charges as a result. We pride ourselves on always packing safely, with the actual materials and method of packing depending on the item(s), where it is going, and with whom we are shipping. We most frequently use the post office, but on some high value items, or upon request, we may use alternatively UPS or FedEx. With the postal service, to domestic destinations with lower value items and the automatically furnished ABE shipping quote, we will usually use Media Mail; on higher value items we are partial to Priority or Express Mail. We will always seek to comply with a customer's wishes if they are communicated to us. When we seek additional shipping charges, we pass along those charges at our cost -- we do not add for handling or materials generally.
