Eleven complete collection development policy statements are included in this volume along with excerpts from seven others, all from members of the Community and Junior College Libraries Section (CJCLS) of the American Library Association. A survey of CJCLS members was conducted with 202 librarians responding. Most respondents functioned in colleges with fewer than 15 full-time library staff, collections of fewer than 75,000 titles, and fewer than 500 serials subscriptions. A copy of the survey, summary of responses, and addresses of libraries whose policy statements were chosen for inclusion are found in the appendixes. The policies cover print, electronic, and audiovisual formats, as well as guidelines for weeding, gifts, and challenged materials. This group of model statements will be valuable to academic and school libraries of all sizes and should be read by librarians engaged in collection development, particularly those who are revising or composing collection development policies.
